The U.S. Senate is poised to vote on a bill that will dramatically impact people with disabilities, their families, staff, and the entire health and service system that is critical to their independence and well-being.
Members of both parties are decrying this bill, warning it contains policies that will hurt people who are eligible and qualified for Medicaid.
This is the week to drop what you're doing and engage your members and community partners to mobilize.
On timing, we expect the Senate to vote on their version of the budget bill later today or tomorrow. As of now, it’s not clear they have the votes to pass it. Then it goes back to the House, which may vote later this week.
That’s why we need folks to call Congress every day this week to share why this bill must be voted down.
Over the weekend, the impact of the Senate’s changes to the bill became clear. According to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office, the Senate bill:
Cuts $1 trillion from Medicaid, a reduction of nearly 20%.
Takes away health insurance from 11.8 million people by 2034; more than 16 million when considering the loss of ACA enhanced premiums
Adds $1.3 trillion to the deficit and $3.3 trillion to the national debt
We continue to lead the charge of educating all members of Congress on how policy impacts the day-to-day lives of people with disabilities and their families.
